For me, running is very different. I have noticed this even more in recent weeks, probably because I feel like I have been consistently improving in Crossfit but am still experiencing immense swings in my performance from run to run. The irritating part is that my running performance does not seem to hinge on any predictable variables (temperature, sleep, what I've eaten, terrain, etc.,) and some days I just don't want to deal with the 50/50 chance that I will have a good or bad run when I have a 90/10 chance that my Crossfit workout will be great!
After this many years of a steady running schedule on the same old routes, I can't understand what my deal is. I REALLY enjoy running when it goes well, but when a run is laborious or painful or "heavy," it makes me feel like a failure somehow. I would really like to sign up for more races, and especially another half marathon, but the idea that there is a high probability I will experience another Asheville Half 2012 or Bilmore 15k 2013 makes the effort (and money) just not seem worth it.
I've tried to Google some advice, but people don't talk about inconsistent performance; they talk about inconsistent workout schedules. So, I turn to you all for some advice. Thanks in advance! And happy running!
