Two pretty cool things happened to me this week. One involves Crossfit, and the other running. Let's start with running.
The picture (above) is pretty bad ass, no? Peter and one of the Black Mountain Running Co. running club members arranged for us to run the "Rock the Quarry" trail run 5k course on Wednesday, and it was one of the most breathtakingly beautiful runs I have ever been on in my life! I kept lamenting during the run that I didn't have a camera with me, but all of you know that the experience of natural beauty is never fully captured in a photo. For example, if I were to make up an analogy, I would say that the picture below that shows a view from the run "is to the real experience as a piece of gravel is to a diamond"....doesn't even come close!
But enough about scenery. The other thing that made this run so special was the fact that I did the entire course UP A MOUNTAIN without using my inhaler! I had accidentally left my inhaler in my car and didn't remember that I hadn't taken it until it was way too late. I am uber happy to report that I didn't have any problems outside of the norm. I can't tell you what a relief that is! I have used that dang thing for a year now, and this is the first time that my "experiment" of exercising without the inhaler has resulted in a positive experience. I must say that the high intensity cardio from Crossfit must be what is making the difference. Yay for happy lungs!
Now, let's talk about Crossfit! My report is short and is just to say that my WOD last Saturday...where I did 40 real kipping pull-ups was not a fluke! I did another WOD today that involved pull-ups, and even though my practice pull-ups before the WOD started didn't go too well (felt a little weak and low) I certainly banged out all the required WOD pull-ups with efficiency and style.
It's so crazy how bodies work, don't you think? It was like one day I couldn't do any pull-ups, then suddenly I could do 2-3, then 10, and now lots! Muscle ups, here I come!
So that's my news. How has everyone else's week been going? Anyone have a milestone they have reached that they'd like to share? Do tell!
Happy running y'all!
