*A 55lb clean
My "news" gives everything else a context, so we'll start with it. You are currently reading words that have been typed by one of the four amazing women who are part of the Beer City Beatdown competition team "Rack City Chicks!" Yes folks, you heard it here first, I am part of my first Crossfit competition team. Even better, I managed to wrangle a group of women who are bad-ass, but also in this for the same reason that I am: to HAVE FUN! It's one thing to compete to win, but when the winner's circle is epochs out of your league, the winning thing to do is give it all you've got and enjoy every bicep-splitting burpee along the way. I will certainly have lots to say on the subject of our training leading up to the October 12th event, so for now I'll just leave it at: I'm so happy and proud to be a member of this team!
Next, let's talk milestones! If any of you have been keeping up with my posts, you'll remember a recent one where I talked about some of my fitness goals. I am very happy to say that I have met a couple of milestones and one GOAL since that post. Here are the stats:
8/17/13 I completed a milestone of 4 kipping pull-ups in a row. I have since done it one other time, so it's super official now.
8/16/13 I completed a GOAL of Rx-ing a weighted WOD! It was a tabata style workout (20sec. on, 10sec. off for 8 rounds of each movement). We did cleans, push press, front squat, and deadlifts. The Rx for women was 70lbs, and even though I didn't get many reps I still Rx'd! (and I have the bruises to prove it)
8/17/13 I met a milestone of 40 consecutive push-ups in an Army PT test WOD
It may not look like much, but progress is progress and these stepping stones show me that I am improving, which is what this is all about, right?
So there you have it! Before this darned virus took me down, I was livin' large on some solid, quantitative proof of my forward momentum as a quasi-athlete. I'd love to hear if any of you have had cause to celebrate these past few weeks.
Better than yesterday!
