Crossfit: Day 1 & 2

My new buddy in Nashville
Have I ever mentioned how much I like the Groupon system? As much as I would love to be the adventurous type of person who is willing to pay a load of cash, sign up for "the unknown," and jump in with both feet, instead I am the kind of person who hems and haws about making a decision until the opportunity has passed me by. But now with GROUPON I can at least feel better about the "load of cash" part and have tried quite a few things over the past year that I never would have done otherwise. Crossfit is one of them.

I was scared to try corssfit. When I saw pictures of people doing it online, or if I met people who did crossfit, they always seemed to be people who were more coordinated, strong, and intense than I was. I also wasn't a fan of the idea of being proselytized to about the paleo diet. But, the more I learned about our local Crossfit Pisgah program from Laura and Jess, the more I liked what I was hearing. Before I knew it I wanted to get "crossfit" too!

My opinion so far? The program lives up to and surpasses the hype. I love the theory of crossfit (helping make everyday life tasks easier), I love the structure (easy-to-digest mini workouts that you repeat in larger rotations so you can measure your progress), I love the workouts (varied, intense, fun, doable), and I love the coaches at Crossfit Pisgah (encouraging, knowledgeable, dedicated to good form, funny, personable). And if that doesn't convince you, crossfit is a great place to pick up hot single men and women. If I wasn't happily married, I'd be singles mixing that place up!

After two sessions I have felt more encouraged and more sore that I ever have from a gym workout before. This may be the resistance training that I can stick to. So look out world, Katie's getting a new, firmer butt!

And in other news, my back doctor appointment is tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Happy Running!

  1. I'm glad you've enjoyed your CF experience! It can seem intimidating but a "box" should be a welcoming community regardless of age or fitness level. If one box doesn't fit you well don't be afraid to try another! The affiliates can program differently and environments can seem friendlier if others are cold. I'm glad you gave it a shot and are enjoying it - it's hard not too! I've been going since May and love it myself. Good luck with your appointment.

    1. Thanks Lindsay! You're right, what's not to love? When I get to run again (fingers crossed) I'm hoping it will have improved my running game too :)
